This week I want to share two recipes I tried recently for exfoliating sugar scrubs! I LOVE making these scrubs for myself and for friends and family. I use them on my face and all over for extremely soft and moisturized skin! I usually make mine with citrus oils (lemon and orange) but wanted to try something new based on some posts I’ve seen on Pinterest. So here they are!
Lavender Vanilla Sugar Scrub Recipe
1/2 cup sugar (I used white and brown)
1 teaspoon coconut oil
1/8 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
5-6 drops lavender
I started by measuring out and melting the coconut oil in the microwave.
Then measured out my sugar in a measuring cup. This ball jar only holds about a half cup, but I find if I use a deeper jar I can’t get all the sugar out. I like using a combination of white and brown sugar; the brown sugar is a little heavier and adds a pretty color and smell to the recipe. You can really use whatever kind of sugar you like. I just eyeballed how much I wanted of each sugar, and then added in the melted coconut oil, vanilla extract and essential oil. You can also add more or less coconut oil (or other carrier oil) depending on how heavy and moisturizing you want the scrub. (If it seems like I’m saying you can do whatever you want with this…it’s because you can!)
Once it was all mixed together I just added it to my glass jar, and I keep it in the shower to use on my face and body a few times a week. Since this was my first time making this specific recipe, I thought I would add my thoughts on it as well. To be honest, I was a little skeptical of the vanilla extract after I added it; it smelled really strong and somewhat alcohol-y. I cut the amount of vanilla extract in half for you all from what I used, and I will definitely use less when I make this again! So try the 1/8 teaspoon and let me know what you think. I did find, though, once I was in the shower using it the vanilla did not smell as strong and definitely complimented the lavender 🙂
Peppermint Coffee Sugar Scrub Recipe
This recipe is my NEW FAVORITE! It smells like peppermint bark and I’m just in love. This was my first time making my own scrub with coffee, although I have used a coffee scrub before and really liked how invigorating it was in the mornings.
1/2 cup white sugar and coffee
1 teaspoon coconut oil
3 drops peppermint essential oil
Again, my jars only hold about a half cup so I eyeballed a ratio of sugar to coffee and ended up using about two spoonfuls (teaspoons) of coffee and the rest sugar. Then just added in my teaspoon of melted coconut oil and three drops of peppermint oil! You absolutely do not need much when it comes to peppermint. My husband and I both instantly thought of peppermint bark when we smelled this scrub, it is to die for!
I cannot wait for you all to try the sugar scrubs for soft, moisturized skin and let me know what you think!
