I love this simple recipe for breath freshening coconut oil dog treats made with peppermint essential oil, and I couldn’t wait to share it on here. My husband is constantly complaining that one of our two pups suffers from stinky breath (*eye roll*), so when I found this recipe for coconut oil treats I was so excited to try them and add essential oils. I found the recipe originally on this blog, and it identifies several health benefits of giving coconut oil to your pups such as skin, digestive and immune system health. I added a few drops of peppermint oil to my recipe as a breath freshener and I love how they turned out 🙂 The pups also love getting a little extra treat. Aren’t they too cute to resist?
So here is this super simple recipe!
Coconut Oil Dog Treat Instructions:
Start by adding your coconut oil to sandwich-sized Ziploc bag. Unless you keep your house very toasty, you’ll need to warm the coconut oil a bit to mix the oils in. Work the bag around in your hands a bit until the coconut oil is warmed up. Then add your essential oil. I used about 3-6 drops of peppermint essential oil for breath freshening and digestive health, and mixed it well in the bag. Lay out a piece of wax paper on a baking sheet to drop the coconut oil on. Cut a little bit off the corner of the ziploc bag and drop dollops of the coconut oil onto the baking sheet. Put it in the fridge or freezer until it’s solid, then transfer to an airtight jar. Store in the fridge or freezer!
My little guys love these treats and don’t even know that I’m subtly freshening their breath and keeping them healthy! 🙂 How do you use coconut oil for yourself or your pups?
